MILE鈥檚 annual advocacy event focusing on teacher education for literacy

MILE Advocates

How It Started

In 2024, MILE began its annual advocacy event with Advocacy Day, a partnership with the 四色AV of Maryland's School of Public Policy, Morgan State 四色AV's School of Education and Urban Studies, and the Karabelle Pizzigati Initiative. Each year, Students and faculty visit the Maryland State House to advocate for relevant policy. In 2026, MILE spearheaded its own advocacy celebration, MILE Advocates, to continue these efforts.

MILE Advocates 2026

On February 26th, 2026, over 40 students attended MILE Advocates, meeting with representatives to discuss literacy policy, share white papers, and learn more about policymaking. Students met leaders like Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller, Senator Anthony Muse, Senator Ronald Watson, and State Superintendent of Schools Carey Wright.
