Roselyn Bi, a Maryland high school junior, created a peer-to-peer handbook to help immigrant students navigate academic expectations, social norms and well-being. The Baltimore Sun highlights the handbook鈥檚 use in Howard County Public Schools and its goal to fill a gap typically overlooked in traditional school resources.
The handbook reflects a broader effort to foster belonging during a time of heightened uncertainty around immigration.
Associate Professor Oolleen O鈥橬eal, who contributed to the handbook鈥檚 creation, says creating welcoming environments for families and students 鈥渃an be a real power for good,鈥 adding that 鈥渢he [handbook] may tap into a good part of all of our hearts across the political spectrum, to be able to support people who are coming here from other countries.鈥
